There are two positions available that are nine to twelve month internships in a Division I Sports Performance department. Upon completion, the intern will be eligible to sit for the SCCC exam through the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association. The chosen candidate will be the head strength and conditioning coach for 2-3 teams as well as assist in the training of almost all 29 teams at Georgetown University. The position requires the ability to work 40+ hours a week, including weekends. Candidates must have a strong work-ethic and have a desire to become a strength and conditioning professional. In addition the intern will go through the internship curriculum which covers in depth overview and discussion of training philosophy, leadership and culture development.
Potential Tasks and Responsibilities
-Assist with the coaching of select teams
-Assist with rehabilitation of injured athletes
-Design and implement the strength and conditioning programs for a select group of student athletes
-Communicate and interact with the sports coaches and athletic training staff of assigned teams on a daily and weekly basis
-Fulfill the requirements of the temporary-assistant education program, including completion of ALL assignments, participation in discussions and expansion of knowledge.
-Communicate and interact with the other members of the coaching staff, faculty, support personnel and administrators.
-Educate student athletes about proper athlete lifestyle (nutrition, sleep, etc.)
-Act as a head strength and conditioning coach at an off-site facility.
Compensation is available.
Requirements: CSCCa-SCCC, USAW, or NSCA-CSCS, Bachelor's Degree or Masters Degree in related field, current CPR-AED certification, one year of previous experience as a strength and conditioning professional, and the ability to function as the Head Sports Performance coach for designated Georgetown University varsity teams as well as an off-site location.
