University of Utah Athletics invites applications for its annual sport science internship. This announcement is for the position of Sport Science Intern. The program will run from approximately June 1, 2018 to August 31, 2018, and a longer internship will be considered for interested candidates. This is an unpaid position.

The Sport Science Intern can expect to:

  • Learn among highly experienced professionals working in a collaborative, high-performance sport environment
  • Support daily student-athlete assessment, monitoring, training, and other applications
  • Assist with ongoing tactical periodization research linking physical activity with performance and/or injury
  • Collaborate with mathematics and computer science interns to assist ongoing projects
  • Contribute to daily operations and administrative tasks

    The Sport Science Intern must possess:

  • A strong desire to pursue a career in high performance sport and have a strong interest in sport science
  • Punctuality, passion, a growth mindset, and a strong work-ethic
  • Ability to volunteer up to 40 hours per week

    Preferred qualifications:

  • Senior status or completion of a bachelor's degree in a related area of study
  • Experience as a volunteer, intern, or professional from any area of sports performance service (strength & conditioning, athletic training, sports nutrition, sport science, wellness, etc.)
  • Competency or interest in data science (i.e. you like numbers)
  • Certification or plans to acquire certification from a related profession (SCCC, ATC, CSCS, USAW, RD, etc.)
  • CPR certification

    The Sport Science Intern will receive:

  • Experience working in an innovative NCAA Division I high-performance sport setting
  • A custom sport science education curriculum based on individual interests and career goals
  • Co-authorship on any peer-reviewed publications that come from the experience
  • Academic or continuing education credit depending on individual circumstance
  • Opportunities to grow one's professional network
  • Potential to earn recommendations for future employment

  • Phone Interviews will begin March 26
