The Associate Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at the University of Delaware is a valued member of our multidisciplinary sports performance healthcare team, upholding and embracing the departmental mission of “Inspiring Greatness Together.” We are looking for a dynamic individual who will report directly to the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.

The Associate Head Strength & Conditioning Coach (S&C) must support the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services (DIARS) vision of providing an excellent student-athlete experience surrounding all aspects of sports performance and foster a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness throughout the program. This person is responsible for direction, implementation, design and supervision of all aspects of the strength and conditioning program for the student-athletes of the men’s and women’s varsity basketball teams and other sport as assigned. This includes, but is not limited to, injury prevention, strength development, conditioning development, agility, mobility, flexibility, energy system identification, as well as corrective exercise prescription based off of Sparta Science assessments. Position will work in collaboration with current strength and conditioning staff, athletic training and other members of the sports performance department to ensure all policies and procedures of are followed and implemented.

Coaching Responsibilities
-Oversee all operations of the men’s and women’s basketball strength and conditioning program and other sport as
-Maintain knowledge of best practices to ensure the health, safety and welfare of student athletes through the
development and implementation of safe and effective strength, speed and conditioning training programs
-Work flawlessly across a multidisciplinary healthcare team consisting of strength and conditioning coaches,
athletic trainers, team physicians, sports psychologist, sports nutritionist, as well as campus healthcare
-Ensure the enhancement of the physical and mental development of student-athletes through the establishment of
specific training programs and activities to increase the performance of student-athletes in both practice and
-Ensure proper technique, and designs training strategies for both injury avoidance and improved performance.
-Coordinate sports specific programs that intensify the physical strength, speed and cardiovascular conditioning for
-Ensure compliance with injury prevention, modifications, and limitations from team medical staff (physicians and
athletic trainers) are abided by.
-Provide leadership, instructs, educates and supervises all basketball student-athletes regarding proper weight
training techniques.
-Implement all aspects of safety within the current policies of the S&C department.
-Monitor the progress of each basketball student-athlete through verifiable records and maintains written
documentation regarding status.
-Incorporates Sparta Science scans and baseline testing within the guidelines of the strength a department.
-Other duties as assigned.

Management/Leadership Responsibilities:
-Oversee the management and development of one full time S&C Coach and the part time strength and conditioning
-Maintain communication with departmental staff, coaches and medical staff.
-Reviews, understands and abides by all department procedures.
-Adhere to all State of Delaware, University, NCAA, Colonial Athletic Association, and department rules and policies
pertaining to the position of Assistant Athletic Director of S&C/Head Basketball S&C Coach.
-Report any known NCAA violations or concerns to the Director of Athletic Compliance.
-Maintain confidentiality for the department. Treats with utmost confidentiality and sensitivity any matter
pertaining to medical, academic and personal data of basketball student-athletes and any information either
directly or indirectly impacting the University and/or Athletic Department.
-Proactively builds and maintains positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues across campus and
in the community to enhance the Blue Hens brand and the University of Delaware mission.
-Contribute to the overall engagement and community service strategy around University initiatives and partnerships.

Administrative Responsibilities:
-Attend all required meetings within Sports Performance and DIARS.
-Oversees the operation of the Bob Carpenter weight room.
-Work within authorized budget to implement programming for men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes.
-Develop and coordinate the strength and conditioning internship program in conjunction with the Associate Athletic
Director for S&C and talent management.
-Develop and coordinate the schedule of the Bob Carpenter weight room in conjunction with the Associate Athletic
Director for S&C.
-Perform other related tasks as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the
supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

-Bachelor’s degree in sport management, kinesiology, recreation or related field required.
-Master’s degree preferred in Exercise Science or related field.
-Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the field of strength and conditioning, with a minimum of 2 years’ of the total
experience as a D1 collegiate basketball strength and conditioning coach.
-SCCC (CSCCa) or CSCS (NSCA) certifications required.
-First Aid/CPR Certified.
-Success in all aspects of strength and conditioning of basketball student-athletes.
-Knowledge of NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
-Ability to foster a positive, cooperative work environment with team and coaching/support staff.
-Advanced knowledge of skills and strategies of strength and conditioning in sport of basketball.
-Knowledge or interest in innovative aspects of strength and conditioning for basketball to further develop players

-Evening, early mornings, and weekend hours will be required.
-Attendance at basketball home games and travel to away basketball games will be required.
