The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), an NCAA DI institution and member of Conference USA, is seeking a Assistant Athletic Performance Coach. Candidate will report to the Director of Athletic Performance for Olympic Sports. Developing and administering all aspects of a strength and conditioning program by: supervising, developing, coordinating, and implementing custom athletic performance programs for assigned sports teams on a year-round basis.

This will include teaching safe and effective lifting techniques and proper spotting procedures; instruct and implement comprehensive speed, agility, plyometric, conditioning and mobility techniques based on the established system, methodologies and principles of UAB Athletic Performance. Experience with Gym Aware and Polar Team 2 Training systems necessary.

Position will be either 8 or 10 month appointment intended to provide entry-level full-time experience. The primary team responsibilities will be assigned based on experience.

Candidate must be able to perform the following duties: communicate and collaborate with head coaches to plan and organize strength and conditioning needs of each team, sports medicine staff regarding management of necessary injury rehabilitation and return to play protocols, maintain a safe and clean strength & conditioning facility and the equipment, ensure proper supervision and oversight of athletic weight training facility.

The individual also adheres to all institution, conference and NCAA rules and regulations and reports all known NCAA violations in accordance with institutional, conference and NCAA policies and guidelines.

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with internship experience at collegiate level. Candidate must be SCCC or CSCS certified by August 1 and must maintain certifications throughout employment with UAB.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships. Candidate must also possess strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and the ability to work a non-standard work week.
