Overview:

The Strength Conditioning Coach (SCC) functions as an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team focused on optimizing Soldier readiness and performance within the Army’s new Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System. Work includes providing forward Musculoskeletal (MSK) care, early medical intervention, injury Prevention (IP) and performance optimization services. Medical treatment provided by the AT is subject to the supervision of a privileged government healthcare provider. In addition, the AT shall provide expert coaching on proper body mechanics and efficient movement techniques in the training and field environment and in coordination with the PT. The AT collects and reports data and recommends and advises the Human Performance Team and unit leadership on all injury issues related to PRT

Responsibilities:

- Participate in program quality assurance of the training programs to ensure training programs are aligned with industry standards.
- Coordinate scheduling of facilities for Government approved courses, training, and classes as applicable.
- Perform strength and conditioning programs in accordance with FM 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness and assist the Lead SCC with developing, coordinating, executing, and managing H2F strength and conditioning programs.
- Coordinate, execute and manage physical performance optimization programs within the framework of the unit’s approved training/operational schedule, battle rhythm, and culture.
- Coordinate and assist the Lead SSC to develop, coordinate, and execute approved training programs for Soldiers with physical limitations that are medically cleared for strength and conditioning training/reconditioning.
- Coordinate with Lead SCC to ensure all strength and conditioning education and services are synchronized and integrated with approved education and services provided by H2F Performance Team.
- Coach and mentor the unit fitness leaders, including MFTs.
- Provide recommended and approved instruction and guidance to Soldiers and unit leadership on physical strength and conditioning and injury prevention in coordination with the unit and H2F Performance Team.
- Identify and direct unit personnel with an apparent new or undiagnosed medical condition to the appropriate medical professionals for evaluation and treatment.
- Identify and recommend opportunities for improvement to H2F Lead SCC.

Minimum Required Skills, Education, Experience & Abilities:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- A certification by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
- Have two years of relevant SCC work experience within the last five years. Relevant experience means developing and executing task and environment-specific functional injury control and health/well-being programs for groups of athletes or Department of Defense/Department of Homeland Security/Department of Justice entities focused on a common sport or mission performance goal.
- Have a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross with Automated External Defibrillators (AED) certification. Certification cards must display the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross emblem. Web-based classes do not meet the required standards.
- Have U.S. Citizenship
- Demonstrate sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills, and social sensitivity such that they can relate to a variety of Soldiers from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, organize workload, and manage time.
- Superb organizational, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Be required to observe BDE-specific training events (e.g., shooting range, obstacle courses, combative training areas, etc.) as directed and be physically able to hike in an austere environment and terrain while carrying their own backpack with necessary supplies on occasion. Be physically able to lift and manipulate loads and weight plates up to 45 pounds.
