Richard C. Lansky, Optimum Power Training Innovations

Improving Athletic Performance and Power Through Olympic-Style Lifting Movements

PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS

Coach Lansky’s presentation will focus on many of the issues surrounding the use of Olympic Weightlifting Movements in the strength and conditioning programs of competitive athletes.

Coach will discuss how the movements can help athletes enhance their ability to produce power and improve sports performance in a variety of sports.

After exploring the characteristics of this type of training and the rationale behind its use, Coach will then deal with some of the ‘hot issues’ surrounding the topic.

Triple joint Extension, concerns about overhead lifting, pulling vs. the lifts proper, and lifting form the floor vs. the hang are some of the key issues that will be discussed.

He will then present real-life, usable hands-on methods surrounding the introduction, coaching and refining of the lifts as they relate to non-weightlifting athletes. Coaching progressions for both individual and large group, team settings will be covered.

Key common technical challenges that strength and conditioning coaches deal with and their corrections will also be addressed.

Finally, the topic of how to best incorporate the lifts into a sport’s strength and conditioning program will be discussed. This will include program design challenges such as the integration of the lifts with the demands of a sport’s technical and tactical needs and the adjustments needed for off-season, pre-season and in-season time frames. Daily and weekly training unit design considerations will also be addressed.

Coaches will be able to take away some concrete methods and usable information that they can apply to the training of their athletes.
