Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association
On May 20th, 2000 a group of full-time, collegiate strength & conditioning coaches from around the country met in Las Vegas and organized a new professional organization. This organization was named the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) and was formed to meet the unique needs of the full-time strength and conditioning coach. The organization's mission statement is as follows:
"As an organization of distinction, consisting of the world's leading strength & conditioning professionals, we teach athletes how to maximize athletic performance through safe and effective exercise prescription, while promoting unity and respect for all strength & conditioning coaches of collegiate and professional athletic programs."
The CSCCa has instituted several programs in order to achieve its mission. The Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification examination was first offered at the 2001 CSCCa Annual National Conference, which was held in Salt Lake City. The SCCC is the most comprehensive certification of its kind and tests the candidates' scientific knowledge, as well as their ability to apply this knowledge in a live working, practical environment. Those candidates preparing to take this certification examination must undergo an 8-9 month internship under the supervision of a CSCCa approved mentor. This mentor's responsibility is to guide the candidate and help him or her develop the skills necessary to become a successful strength and conditioning coach.
Members of the CSCCa also enjoy the unity and camaraderie that come from participation in the organization. The CSCCa Annual National Conference is designed to promote unity, respect, and professional development. Each year, coaches have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in an educational setting, as well as through the sharing of experience and expertise among the strength & conditioning coaches themselves. The association strives to keep collegiate & professional strength & conditioning coaches current on the latest research and its application in the field through several methods: securing knowledgeable conference speakers; publishing valuable and informative articles on the organization's website; as well as through a variety of other methods.
This organization belongs to the strength and conditioning coaches of collegiate and professional athletic organizations. Their participation, input, and support is vital to the CSCCa's continued growth and to the accomplishment of its mission!
