MSCC Class of 2012

Robert dos Remedios

Head, College of the Canyons

After playing football and graduating from the University of California, Berkeley in 1989, Robert began his career in strength and conditioning by volunteering at his former Community College, Glendale College, while completing his graduate studies in Kinesiology.

During his 5 years at Glendale College, Robert helped over 100 athletes gain Division I football scholarships. After spending the next 4 years as a High School head Football Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach at John Burroughs High School, Robert took the job as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California in 1998. This was the very first full-time Community College Strength and Conditioning position ever in the State of California. During his tenure at College of the Canyons, Robert has helped the school's athletic programs win over 50 conference championships, including a 2004 Football National Championship. In addition, Robert has helped over 200 athletes gain Division I scholarships, including 8 football athletes who went on to play in the NFL and none of whom were recruited or awarded scholarships out of high school. 2006 marked a major highlight in Robert's career was being named the NSCA Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Professional of the Year as voted on by his peers. This is the only time a Community College Strength And Conditioning Coach has ever won this award.

Community College athletics is dear to Robert as he remains at College of the Canyons in spite of numerous opportunities over the years to move to the 4-year and professional levels. The skill level of his athletes, the support from his sport coaches, and an environment for helping and teaching student-athletes-both in the sporting arena and in life-are the main reasons for his love of coaching at this level.

Robert has MANY coaches in this field to thank, all of whom he owes a debt of gratitude: some as mentors, some as influences, and others as great friends-just too many to list. Of course, his biggest thanks go to his wife Francine and his daughter Annabella who have given him, and continue to give him, undying support in all his endeavors.
