Todd Smith

Assistant Athletic Director: Applied Sport Science

Todd Smith began his strength and conditioning career in 1992 at Badin High School in Hamilton, Ohio while a student at Miami University. In 1995 he moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where he was a graduate assistant at the University of North Dakota under the guidance of Paul Chapman. At UND he became a student of the field while working closely with Coach Chapman and Mark Nemish. In 1998 Smith was hired at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California as the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance under John McBride where he stayed until August 2000. Smith then took an assistant position at San Jose State University for one football season before heading back to Pacific as the Director of Athletic Performance in November of that year.
Smith was the Director of Athletic Performance at Pacific for six years. At that time, he was responsible for all 16 NCAA Division I Sports. While at Pacific, Smith also assisted Jerry Attaway with five San Francisco 49er Training Camps and Mark Nemish with the first two Nashville Predators training camps in team history. In 2006, Smith moved back to the Midwest to be the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Marquette University, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Smith has been at Marquette for five years and currently oversees all 14 NCAA Division I Sports, with his primary responsibility being men's basketball.
Over the last 12 years, Smith has worked with student-athletes who have gone on to compete in the Olympics, NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, and WNBA. He has worked with nearly every NCAA sport during his stops at different Universities. He has also coached numerous All-Conference Players, Conference Players of the Year, Conference Championship Teams, NCAA Teams, and All-Americans. Most recently, Smith's basketball teams from Pacific and Marquette have made a combined 8 straight NCAA tournament appearances, including a run to the Sweet Sixteen this past year.
Smith would like to thank Paul Chapman, Mark Nemish, John McBride, Jerry Attaway, Maggie Lamb, Brent Salazar, Rudy Thomas, and Nate and Kristin Heyrman for their friendship, guidance, patience and persistence over the past 12 years. He would also like to thank all of his former student-athletes, former assistants, and former interns for all their hard work and dedication. Smith would especially like to thank his wife, Maggie, for all her love, support, and sacrifice. They have two sons: Cooper (4) and Gradyn (2).
