Jason Phillips

Head Strength Coach

Jason Phillips enters his 17th year of coaching across both collegiate and professional athletics. He begins his fourth season as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Colorado State University after being hired as an assistant in 2009. In his four seasons at Colorado State working with the men's basketball program, the team has seen post-season play three of those four seasons, including back to back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012. In addition, Phillips has served as the strength and conditioning coach for the women's volleyball program since 2011 and has played a vital role in a program that has won three consecutive Mountain West Conference championships (2011-2013) and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen in 2014.

In 2013, Phillips took part in the NBA pre-Draft combine in Chicago. As an affiliate of BAM (Basic Athletic Measurement) Coach Phillips assisted in the measurement and athletic testing of NBA prospects. He also serves as a strength and conditioning consultant to The Bahamas senior men's basketball national team. The 20 member senior team has trained and practiced in Fort Collins, Colorado in preparation for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation championships and FIBA Americas Championships.

Phillips came to the Rams after a four-year stint from 2005-08 as the Head Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with the University of Washington in the PAC-12 Conference. During his time at Washington, Phillips worked with the football, men's and women's golf programs, as well as the Huskies softball program that amassed 109 wins during his tenure and finished ranked No. 3 in 2006-07.

As an Assistant Strength, Speed & Conditioning Coach at Oregon State University for two years, Phillips assisted with the implementation of strength, speed and conditioning for the Beavers football team, while serving as the strength and conditioning coach for the wrestling, softball, swimming, and men's/women's golf programs.

Phillips joined the Beavers after serving as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the NFL's San Diego Chargers under strength coach Dave Redding and head football coach Marty Schottenheimer in 2003 and 2004.

Prior to his two seasons in San Diego, Phillips was the assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of California, Irvine, which hosts 23 varsity sports. He also spent a season as a minor league strength and conditioning coach for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2000, coaching soon-to-be major leaguers.

The Deadwood, South Dakota native worked as a graduate assistant at the University of North Texas from 1997-1998. He was in charge of strength & conditioning for golf, swimming, women's basketball, tennis, and track & field. He also assisted with football during his time at UNT, where he obtained a master's degree in Exercise Physiology. Phillips attended the University of Colorado as an undergraduate and earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology. He holds numerous certifications, including; Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (SCCC), National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), FMS, Eleiko Olympic Weightlifting, and USA Weightlifting.

There have been many friends and colleagues that have been a significant part of his journey but Coach Phillips would like to specifically thank; Paul Young, Vernon Banks, Denny Bonewitz, Dave Redding, Eric Burkhardt, Trent Greener, and Greg Scanlan. In addition, he would like to extend a special "thank you" to his parents for encouraging a small-town boy to dream big... and his "Home Team" - Natalie, for helping build a house-on-wheels and being a great coach's wife and an even better mom and cheerleader, and finally Noa & Makena who have tolerated the early mornings, long weekends, and sacrifices with patience and love.
