Matthew Eck

Assistant AD/Director of Strength & Conditioning

Matt Eck arrived at Nevada in 2001 as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and rose through the ranks to his current position of Assistant Athletics Director for Strength and Conditioning while in his 16th year at the school.

A native of the small town of Newton, Kansas, Eck attended Kansas State where he played football for Hall of Fame Head Coach Bill Snyder. During his time with the Wildcats, Eck developed under strength coach and mentor Rod Cole.

When his playing days came to an end in 2000, Coach Cole gave Eck the opportunity of his first job in the strength and conditioning field as a student assistant at Kansas State.

In June of 2001, Matt accepted a position at the University of Nevada where he began working with all 17 varsity sports. Matt owes a great deal of gratitude to Coach Jason Loscalzo for being the real guy to take a chance on him and get him out to Nevada.

During his tenure at Nevada, Matt has been a part of 10 bowl appearances, a pair of WAC Championships, 10 All-America Honorees, and has guided the development of 35 NFL players in his career. He also played a pivotal role of the golden era of the men's basketball program that went to four straight NCAA Tournaments, including the school's first ever Sweet 16 appearance in 2004. He helped developed seven players from the program who would go on to play professionally in the NBA.

An integral part of all intercollegiate sports on the Nevada campus, Matt has helped the Wolf Pack win 22 conference championships so in his time in Reno.

Matt has had the honor of working with a tremendous amount of dedicated student-athletes who have made his job both enjoyable and challenging. He is grateful to have such an outstanding staff to work with, both present and past, as they have been the real brains behind the operation.

Matt would like to say a special thank you to his wife, Jennifer, as she is the true strength in the family, and to his two sons, Carter and Mason, for being two great young men whom make their dad very proud. Finally, he would like to thank the CSCCa for this honor, as he is incredibly humbled by his inclusion in this fraternity of professionals.
