John Sauer

Head S&C Coach, The College of William & Mary

John Sauer has been the Director of Strength and Conditioning at The College of William and Mary for the past 17 years. John came to William and Mary from Clemson University in 1988 to become the first full-time strength and conditioning coach the college has ever had.

John began his career as a volunteer assistant at the University of Montana in 1983, where he also received his B. S. in Health and Physical Education in 1984. He went on to receive his Masters Degree in Health and Physical Education from Delta State University in 1985 where he also served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. In addition, he has held positions at Clemson University, University of Utah, and Southern Methodist University.

John received his CSCS in 1986 and is also Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified by the CSCCa. In addition, he holds USAW Club Coach and Senior Coach Certification. John was also selected as NSCA Colonial Athletic Association Professional of the Year in 1996-97-98.

John is very appreciative of the opportunity he has had at William and Mary, where his goal is to "Have a program and facility the student-athletes can be proud of." He feels, one of the biggest rewards of his career has been the successes that so many former student-athletes have gone on to achieve in life. He is also thankful for the support he has had from his family and fellow coaches over the past 21 years in the profession.
