Derrick Jenkins

Assistant

Coach Derrick Jenkins is in his 13th year as a full time collegiate strength and conditioning coach and his 5th as the Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He currently works directly with Volleyball, Baseball, Men's Golf, Women's Golf and Spirit.

A native of Huntsville, Ohio Derrick earned a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Evansville where he was a member of the football and powerlifting teams all four years. Additionally, Derrick was a work-study student assistant in the varsity weight room for three of those years. After a season working in the Toronto Blue Jays organization he took a graduate assistant position in the HPER department at Western Michigan University obtaining a M.A. with an emphasis in Exercise Science. Derrick went back to professional baseball in 2000 with the Milwaukee Brewers organization and in 2001 with the Kansas City Royals organization. In 2001 he took a strength and conditioning graduate assistant position at Central Michigan University where he worked for two years under Greg Halberg and Melissa Walton graduating with a second M.A., emphasis in Athletic Administration. In early 2004 Derrick was an intern at Brown University working with all teams that used the varsity weight room. Getting his first full time collegiate position in late 2004 Derrick was the Assistant Director of Athletic Performance under Lacey Degnan at the University of Montana. In this capacity he directed the activities of Womenâ??s Basketball, Womenâ??s Soccer, Volleyball and assisted with other sports including Football, Menâ??s Basketball and Track and Field. Derrick progressed in his strength and conditioning career, taking the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning position at UTSA in late 2006. He worked in this capacity under Michael Cox until 2010 and then Charles Dudley when Dudley became the Director of Strength and Conditioning at UTSA. During his time at UTSA he has worked with every team the university fields. Derrick was promoted to his current position of Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning in 2013.

Professionally, Derrick would like to thank those coaches who have mentored him along the way. While the list is too expansive to name everyone he would like to specifically mention - Charles Dudley, Michael Cox, Lacey Degnan, Jim Malone, Greg Halberg, Melissa Walton, Jeff Sellers, Donald Maib, Anthony Glass and Tim Wakeham. Personally, he would like to thank his family for their unconditional love and support.
