Robert Basile

Head

Rob Basile began his professional career in the field of accounting after graduating from St. John's University in 1987. After several years, he decided to change his profession and pursue his dream of becoming a collegiate strength and conditioning coach.

In August of 1996, he joined St. John's University as a volunteer Strength and Conditioning Coach. Under then Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Al Caronia, Rob was given many team responsibilities which allowed him to gain immediate hands-on experience. Within a year, Rob was hired as a part-time coach. Then in September of 1999, new head coach Bill Martinov hired Rob as a full-time assistant. Rob gained a wealth of knowledge and experience under Coach Martinov especially with regards to organization, planning, and the art of coaching. In 2001, Rob was hired as the Director of Strength & Conditioning, and he currently supervises the programming for 12 Red Storm varsity sports.

During his tenure, Rob has contributed to the development of teams that have won many Big East conference championships, and made numerous NCAA tournaments, including a Men's Soccer Final Four, Baseball Super Regional, and Women's Volleyball Sweet Sixteen. He has also been blessed to have worked with numerous student-athletes who have gone on to professional sport careers, the Olympics, and international competitions.

Rob earned his Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology from Adelphi University in 2006 and had his research thesis abstract titled 'The Relationship between Physical and Physiological Performance Measures and Baseball Performance Measures' published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise. In addition, Rob holds several industry certifications but is most proud of his SCCC certification.

Rob would like to thank all the coaches, athletes, and his graduate assistants who have been a part of his professional and personal life. He would especially like to thank Al Caronia for giving him his start, Bill Martinov for his mentorship, and John Diffley for his continued guidance and support.

Last but most importantly, Rob would like to thank his wife, Melissa, and son, Robert James III, for giving him their unconditional love and support.
