Western Illinois University is currently accepting applications for 1 (one) available Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coaching position. This is a 1 year appointment for the Spring-Summer-Fall 2019 academic year with the possibility of renewal for a 2nd year. Responsibilities would include designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams, as well as other tasks as assigned by the head strength coach. Candidate must have a strong passion for strength and conditioning, knowledge of Olympic based lifts, and a desire to continue in a sports performance coaching career. Working hours will vary for this position. Most likely start date will be January 12, 2019. Applications will be accepted until position is filled.
Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science or related field. Candidate must be accepted to the Exercise Science Graduate Program at Western Illinois University with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidate must have OR actively be seeking a certification from the CSCCa or NSCA. Prior experience in collegiate, professional, or private strength and conditioning will strongly be preferred. Candidate must have the ability to motivate, educate, and coach the student-athlete to reach their highest potential. Candidate must show ability to write sound training plans, as well as teach the movements to the current WIU Strength Staff. One must have the ability to communicate daily at a high level with the strength and conditioning staff, athletic training staff, assigned sport coaches, and sport administrators. A current CPR/AED certification is required.
Compensation: Tuition waiver and monthly stipend (around $830/month after taxes). Student Fees are NOT covered by Tuition Waiver. Potential GA will be responsible to zero those fees out to register for future semesters.
WIU Health Insurance is required for you to pay if you do not currently have an alternative (around $800 per semester). WIU Health Insurance can be waived if you have alternative health insurance.
