University of Utah Athletics invites applications for its summer sport science program. Two interns will be accepted for the position of Sport Science Intern. In 2019, these interns will work in close collaboration with our strength & conditioning department. The program runs from approximately June 3 to August 30, 2019 (depending on availability) and a longer internship will be considered for candidates who express interest. These are an unpaid positions.

Both interns can expect to:
-Learn among highly experienced professionals in a collaborative, high-performance sport environment
-Support daily student-athlete assessment, monitoring, training, and other applications
-Assist with our transition into a custom strength & conditioning management system
-Assist with ongoing strategic periodization research linking physical activity with performance and/or injury
-Participate in High-Performance and Sports Performance Team meetings
-Contribute to daily operations and administrative tasks

The Sport Science Interns must possess:
-A strong desire to pursue a career in high performance sport and have a strong interest in sport science
-Punctuality, passion, a growth mindset, and a strong work-ethic
-Ability to volunteer up to 40 hours per week

Preferred qualifications:
-Senior status or completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related area of study
-Experience as a volunteer, intern, or professional from strength & conditioning and/or sport science
-Demonstrated competency in data science, including use with Microsoft Excel and the R Stats Package
-Certification or plans to acquire certification from a related profession (SCCC, CSCS, etc.)
-CPR certification

The Sport Science Intern will receive:
-Experience working in an innovative NCAA Division I high-performance sport setting
-A custom sport science education curriculum based on individual interests and career goals
-Co-authorship on any peer-reviewed publications that come from the experience
-Academic or continuing education credit depending on individual circumstance
-Opportunities to grow one’s professional network
-Potential to earn recommendations for future employment
