The University of Houston Strength and Performance Department is seeking hardworking individuals who are in pursuit of a career in strength and conditioning. The University of Houston Strength and Performance Department is looking to fill a paid internship positions for the summer of 2019. If selected to fill the position, candidates will have the opportunity to work with all student-athletes that conduct strength training in the Elmer Redd Strength and Conditioning Center. This is located in the University of Houston Athletics/Alumni Center. The goal of the internship is to prepare the individual for a graduate assistantship or assistant strength and conditioning position after the internship.
Daily Responsibilities will include but not limited to: As an Intern you will be expected to work varied hours that will include some weekends. A typical day can begin at 5 am and will vary as to when it may end. You will be expected to assist with set up and breakdown of training groups and assist, when asked, with providing instruction to student-athletes. It will also be expected to assist with daily care of the facility and other tasks that are needed inside the University of Houston Strength and Performance Department. Participation in the internship curriculum is expected and this will include topics that cover exercise science, the art form of coaching, educational presentations, debates, homework assignments, and practical application of Strength and Conditioning Knowledge acquired.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required in exercise science or related field. Must be certified or working towards the CSCCa-SCCC and/or NSCA-CSCS certification. Have strong desire to be a Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coach and have a passion for learning. Must have an excellent work ethic and an ability to be proactive. CPR/First aid Certified.
