Professional Internship (Stipend)

UMass-Lowell Sports Performance Department is seeking to fill a 10 Month Professional Internship Position for the 2019-2020 academic year. (Aug 1st - May 30th).

Intern will assist all Sports Performance staff with all aspects of the strength and conditioning programming. Intern will also serve as the head sports performance coach for 1-2 teams as assigned. This will be a hands-on, educational internship program that will provide the chosen intern the necessary experience in strength and conditioning basics [programming], coaching techniques, exercise technique, and weight room design, maintenance, and management skills that will help them in future employment situations. CSCCa mentorship program available for candidates seeking to obtain the SCCC certification.

THIS IS AN EDUCATIONAL POSITION. There is an available stipend ($5,000 dispersed evenly over the internship period). Possible additional paid work could be available through the athletic department to help supplement income. There is several Sports Performance or commercial gyms in the area to obtain part time work.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. Must possess one of the following SCCC or CSCS Certifications. Must exhibit excellent communication skills and strong work ethic. Must be able to work independently as well as in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications: 1-2 years of volunteer service in a collegiate strength and conditioning setting. Certification through the CSCCa specifically, but CSCS through the NSCA is also accepted. Experience with Olympic lifting and being able to teach these lifts is preferred.
