The Assistant Athletic Director for Olympic Sports Performance reports to the Director of Sports Medicine/Head Team Physician and works closely with student-athletes and Northwestern University Department of Athletics and Recreation (NUDAR) staff. The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health, Safety & Performance/Director of Athletic Training Services assists the Head Team Physician with oversight and operational aspects of the Assistant Athletic Director for Olympic Sports Performance position. With input from the Athletic Training Staff and Coaching staff, the Assistant Athletic Director for Olympic Sports Performance will supervise the development of programs for the enhancement of strength, conditioning and movement development as required by all sports, except football. The position will also have administrative responsibilities related to the development and management of the Olympic Sports Performance staff, as well as supervision and maintenance of strength and conditioning facilities.

Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Strength and Conditioning Development
a. Coordinate the overall physical strength, cardiovascular conditioning, sport-specific agility, and speed development programming for all intercollegiate sports except football.
b. In compliance with applicable NCAA Policy, Interassociation Guidelines, and/or Consensus Guidelines and in conjunction with the use of performance data and analytics:
i. Maintain responsibility for developing strength and conditioning programs for their assigned sports with program review provided by the Director of Sports Medicine/Head Team Physician and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health, Safety & Performance/Director of Athletic Training Services.
ii. Review strength and conditioning programs designed by all other Olympic Sports Performance staff with additional program review provided by the Director of Sports Medicine/Head Team Physician and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health, Safety & Performance/Director of Athletic Training Services.
c. Maintain a program-wide record system that will allow for the monitoring student-athlete programming and student athlete progress in the area of strength and conditioning development.
d. Coordinate, or assist in coordinating, and participate in High Performance Team meetings.
e. Coordinate, or assist in coordinating, Student-Athlete Performance Summit with Intercollegiate Athletic Training Staff.
f. Work directly with student-athletes to educate and motivate them with regards to the importance of strength and conditioning programs.
2. Program Development with Staff
a. With the Director of Football Sports Performance, coordinate the development of strength and conditioning program mission, values and annual development goals.
b. Supervise the development of strength and conditioning programs managed by, and coaching techniques performed by, the Olympic Sports Performance staff, including Graduate Assistant and Interns, for sports other than football.
c. Supervise, manage and develop the Olympic Sports Performance staff, including Graduate Assistant and Interns, for sports other than football in alignment with the NUDAR mission and values.
d. Coordinate regular, periodic staff meeting for strength and conditioning staff including football.
e. Maintain responsibility for working with the Athletic Training Staff to assist in the execution of prevention and rehabilitation programs as necessary.
a. With the Director of Football Sports Performance, develop and implement policies and procedures regarding intercollegiate strength and conditioning programs. Maintain and update policies and procedures manual annually.
b. Work directly with the Director of Facilities on facilities improvement projects. Responsible for the overall image and environment of the sports performance facilities.
c. Maintain responsibility for the development and enforcement of safe programming within the sports performance facilities. Work with the appropriate personnel to insure proper equipment maintenance.
d. Maintain responsibility for scheduling direct supervision, by certified Sports Performance staff, of all strength and conditioning activities including the assurance that a Certified Athletic Trainer supervises conditioning activities and is accessible during strength training activities. Duties also include, but are not limited to:
i. Establishing and posting Sports Performance facility hours.
ii. Establishing and posting Sports Performance facility regulations.
iii. Maintaining appropriate student-athlete conduct in Sports Performance facilities.
e. With the Director of Football Sports Performance, and in conjunction with the Director of Sports Medicine and the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Director of Athletic Training Services, maintain a fiscally responsible budget for the Sports Performance Department.
f. Promote the strength training and conditioning program at Northwestern University at requested times including, but not limited, to the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
g. Develop annual Performance Excellence evaluations of all Olympic Sports Performance staff, including Graduate Assistant and Interns in all sports except football.
h. Work with Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health, Safety & Performance/Director of Athletic Training Services and Human Resources to coordinate the recruitment and identification of successful candidates for vacant positions.
i. Prior to June 30, provide the Director of Sports Medicine/Head Team Physician and Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health, Safety & Performance/Director of Athletic Training Services with a yearly report documenting the progress of student-athletes in the area of sports performance, strength training and conditioning.
a. Represent the Department at University, Big Ten Conference, and national-level conferences and professional development opportunities.
b. When possible, attend athletic events in all sports but football to maintain maximum knowledge of each intercollegiate sport relevant to various assignments.
c. Participate in special projects initiated by the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health, Safety & Performance/Director of Athletic Training Services or through own creativity and innovation.
d. Other duties as assigned.
1. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
2. Certified by the CSCCa or NSCA and maintained throughout employment
3. Significant strength and conditioning coaching experience with collegiate student-athletes
4. Ability to lift >50 lbs.
5. Previous management of strength and conditioning staff preferred
6. Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University.
7. Maintenance of CPR, AED and First Aid training required
8. Master's degree preferred
