The Chinese Olympic Committee is searching for qualified strength and conditioning professionals to assist them in preparation for the 2020 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo, Japan, and the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Qualified candidates must have a strong desire to be involved in strength and conditioning at the international level, be flexible, and willing to travel. Applicants must be diligent and willing to learn other philosophies and cultures, be passionate about teaching/motivating athletes, and proficient at various computer/technology applications. They must be willing to work cooperatively with coaches and sports medicine staff, be able to adhere to all providence, national, and international Olympic committee regulations; and have familiarity and commitment to working in a culturally diverse environment. This position is full time, applicants can expect to gain valuable experience in the international sports arena working with professionals from around the world, have the opportunity to work with elite level athletes, and learn about new cultures. Housing, food, international airfare, and gear expenses are covered by the Chinese Olympic Committee.

General notes: Some weekend and holiday work may be required based on specific sport seasons and team travel. Some travel required.

Additional Information

Purpose of position to provide technical and professional supervision of the preparation of elite athletes for Team China in preparation for the 2020 Olympic summer games, 2022 Olympic winter games, and other international athletic competition through the utilization of scientifically based principles of athletic performance training.

Essential functions:
-Design and supervise year-round strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports teams to optimize athletic performance and decrease injury potential
-Develop testing protocols to determine the effectiveness of strength and conditioning training plans
-Assists with teaching proper weightlifting, speed, agility, and conditioning techniques
-Assists in the implementation of rehab and reconditioning programs prescribed by the sports physiotherapist staff
-Supervise, instruct, and provide technical assistance in designing speed, strength, agility, and conditioning programs for assigned sports teams
-Assist with testing and data collection with team sport scientist
-Ability to adapt training plan as needed based on data analysis and consultation with sport scientist, sport physiotherapist, and sport coach
-Assist with the maintenance of weight room equipment, to include equipment cleaning and repair
-Ensure compliance with weight room rules
-Maintain accurate records of athlete’s progress
-Work cooperatively with sport coaches in planning and coordination of strength and conditioning training plan with sports team training plan
-Communicate with supervisor, sport coaches, sport scientist, and sports physiotherapist staff
-Comply with providence, national, and international Olympic federation rules and regulations

Marginal/Incidental functions: Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

Required qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in area that provides a knowledge base in exercise physiology and athletic performance
-Three year minimum of work experience as a collegiate, national, or professional strength and conditioning coach working with Olympic sports, professional sports, and/or international sports
-Certification from a nationally accredited organization specializing in athletic performance training
-Excellent communication skills
-Strong interpersonal skills
-Demonstrate ability to effectively work with male and female athletes
-AHA Adult CPR, AED certification

Preferred qualifications
-Master’s degree in area that provides a knowledge base in exercise physiology and athletic performance
-CSCCa -SCCC, ASCA -PCAS-P or higher, or UKSCA-ASCC
-Previous playing and or coaching experience with Olympic sports at the collegiate or professional level
-Experience with programming design for Olympic sports programs
-Five years or more experience as a collegiate, national, or professional strength and conditioning coach working with Olympic sports, professional sports, and/or international sports
-Olympic weightlifting background in teaching, coaching, and instructing
-Documented success implementing a performance training system


Working conditions
Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished). May work in all weather
conditions. May work in extreme temperatures. May work around standard office conditions. Climbing of stairs. Climbing of ladders. Lifting and moving of heavy objects up to 100 lbs.
Competitive salary will commensurate with years of experience. Accommodations, food, and gear will be provided. Team China will cover the cost of international airfare for one trip per year of your yearly contract. Additionally, each staff member will receive 20 days paid holiday leave.
