MidAmerica Nazarene University, a premier Christian University located in Olathe, KS is seeking applications for the position of Graduate Assistant Olympic Lifting Coach. This is a 12-month contract with the opportunity to renew until your Master’s program is finished. Candidates should exemplify the principles, guidelines and covenants of MidAmerica Nazarene University and possess leadership skills, demonstrate a commitment to the highest ideals of sportsmanship and academics, as well as developing and maintaining a positive student-athlete experience.

Candidates for the above position should possess a commitment to Christian higher education, model servant leadership, and be willing to assume the duties listed in the following general position description.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
:
Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program, including adherence and
enforcement of all departmental policies and procedures, as well as University, Conference and NAIA rules
and regulations; along with USA Weightlifting.
Coach student athletes in Olympic Lifting; participate in planning and implementing pre-season training
programs; training and practice sessions to maximize time, effort, safety and skill
Provide for the safety and welfare of student athletes at all fitness levels working closely with the
athletic training staff where applicable
Attend and perform duties as assigned at various Weightlifting meets and other events as fundraisers for the
department.
Attend athletic staff meetings as requested and implement strategies resulting from these meetings
Represent the athletic department at professional, civic, charitable, and alumni events as requested; assist
with coordinating community service projects, leadership training, and outreach activities as part of the
NAIA’s Champions of Character program.
Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards.


QUALIFCATIONS:

Certified or working towards the USAW-L1, CSCCa or the NSCA (CSCS), have First Aid & CPR certifications.
Demonstrated previous collegiate weight room experience with a strong desire to pursue a career in the
Olympic Lifting field.
The candidate will learn under a USAW-L2 Coach as well as a CSCCa Approved Mentor & candidate will be
eligible to sit for SCCC exam (if applicable).
Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the
University, both on the telephone and in person. The ability to relate in a caring manner to students and
families from a broad range of backgrounds, both in group situations and individually.
Ability to prioritize and deal with several tasks concurrently, while maintaining flexibility, high energy,
creativity, and attention to detail.
Ability to use new technologies to accomplish team and departmental goals.
Ability to work a varied schedule which may include night and weekend hours.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree is required; preferably in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field
Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience including effective leadership, communication, and recruiting
skills is preferred.

Compensation
a. Base Stipend
i. Graduate Assistants living off campus the stipend is $312.50 per semi-monthly pay period (a rate of $7,500
annually). The payments are made semi-monthly over a period of 12 months.
ii. Graduate Assistants living on campus the stipend is $216.67 per semi-monthly pay period (a rate of $5,200
annually). The payments are made semi-monthly over a period of 12 months. Due to the current challenges
associated with on campus housing availability, GA’s are not guaranteed on campus housing. Coaches are to
encourage prospective GA’s to find off campus housing.
b. Meal plans
i. For Graduate Assistants living on campus, an unlimited meal plan will be expensed at the University’s cost
of $1,937 annually.
ii. For Graduate Assistants living off campus, a 90 block plan will be expensed at the University’s cost of
$1017 annually; a 90 block plan provides 90 meals per semester.
c. Health, Dental, Vision and other benefits
i. Graduate Assistants are eligible for health benefits and should be confirmed with/by the Human Resources
department.
d. Academic related costs, fee’s, books
i. Graduate assistants receive full tuition remission
ii. Graduate assistants do not receive reimbursement or other compensation for course fees, university fees,
course materials, and/or including books.

2. Budgeting / Accounting
a. All expenses will be budgeted and charged to the department to which the Graduate Assistant is assigned. In
general, GA expenses will be charged to staff accounts rather than faculty.

3. Admission to Graduate Programs
a. All Graduate Assistants must apply and be accepted into an MNU graduate program following the standard
admissions process.
b. MNU may, at its sole discretion, limit the aggregate number of Graduate Assistants as well as the number of
Graduate Assistants participating in each program. That limit may be as few as zero.
c. Limited if any consideration may be giving to the Graduate Degree in Counseling
