Sports Performance Graduate Assistant

Description: Purdue Fort Wayne Athletics, a Horizon League NCAA Division 1 member located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, has an opening for a staff Graduate Assistant in the Strength and Conditioning/Sports Performance Department. This position is responsible for designing, implementing and supervising the sports performance plan of their assigned teams. This position includes participation in personal and professional development initiatives available to the department. An important aspect of the day-to-day work environment will be coordination and collaboration with Sports Medicine staff to safely adjust workouts for injured student-athletes. Additional tasks include: assisting in the cleaning, maintenance, scheduling, and operation of the sports performance facility.

Required Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field

-Strength and conditioning certification upon acceptance (CSCCa, CSCS, USAW, ACSM-EP, ISSA)

-CSCCa or CSCS certification required by the end of the first year

-CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.

- Candidates must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student seeking a Master’s degree in any Purdue Fort Wayne major prior to start date

Preferred Skills:

-Completion of at least one internship in the Strength & Conditioning/Sports Performance field

-Prior coaching experience in Strength & Conditioning/Sports Performance

-Excellent oral and written communication skills

-Ability to deal directly with student-athletes and provide sport specific recommendations

-Ability to work well with coaching staffs

-Ability to track and report data, and work with coaching staffs

-Basic understanding of NCAA guidelines

-Ability to recognize, refer, and report student-athlete mental health and welfare concerns

Start Date: 7/31/2024

Compensation: Estimated $1,500 per month, plus partial tuition waiver (10 month position with possibility of renewal)
