McKendree University is seeking one Graduate Assistant Athletic Performance Coach to assist in the daily operations of a collegiate athletic performance department beginning August 1, 2024.
The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to be a collegiate athletic performance coach and will possess a strong work ethic, high character values, and a willingness to learn and grow. Candidates must be accepted into a graduate program at McKendree before they are eligible for selection.
This position reports directly to the Director of Athletic Performance. This position will be a two-year appointment dependent on maintaining good academic standing and progress as well as being a growing member of the Performance team. A large emphasis will be placed on developing the skills needed to progress to the next level as a collegiate athletic performance coach.
Responsibilities include:
Develops, implements, and monitors sport-specific strength training programs and sport-specific speed, agility, and conditioning programs for teams and individual athletes
Works in partnership with administration, coaching staff, and athletic training staff to provide an integrated program of injury reduction and performance training
Monitors the weight room and safe lifting techniques of student athletes when possible
Operate/oversee social media accounts for the athletic performance department
Meeting with potential student athletes in the recruiting process
Performs related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Performance
Required Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Pursuing or have obtained one of the following certifications: SCCC, CSCS, USAW
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Current CPR and AED certification. Acceptance into a McKendree University Graduate Program (MA in Performance Psychology and Leadership preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
Undergrad in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field
Previous coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional setting
Ability to demonstrate and teach strength training movements, running mechanics, and change of direction mechanics
Candidate will possess a good work ethic, attention to detail, ability to manage sensitive and confidential student information, and a familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Proficiency in social media
Strong communication skills
Ability to critically think and learn in fast paced environment
Experience with TeamBuildr Strength & Conditioning software

Compensation: 10 Month Stipend (August-May) + Tuition, Summers off (June-July)
