The Opportunity
Wartburg College is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to lead a new graduate program in Health and Human Performance. Four new Master of Science degrees will build upon successful undergraduate programs in health and human performance and the sciences, a successful DIII athletics program, and high-quality physical facilities in the “W” including state-of-the-art exercise science facilities, classrooms and laboratories.
The institution is at an exciting moment as it embarks upon “Our Brightest Days: Realizing Purpose, Leading Change,” the College’s new strategic plan. As indicated in the newly adopted vision statement, “Wartburg College is called to be the leading institution in education of the whole person. Together, we create an inclusive community combining diverse curricular and co-curricular experiences to prepare students to be resilient leaders of positive change through service in a complex world.” Building upon the College’s Master of Arts in Leadership and Graduate Leadership Certificate, an institutional priority is the exploration and implementation of additional graduate programs in areas of institutional distinction and market appeal, including these four new Master of Science High Performance degrees.
Over the past 25 years, Wartburg College has experienced remarkable growth and success in athletics, achieving national recognition for high performance in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Significant investments in developing personnel and facilities have enabled the College to support a marked increase in student-athlete participation, from approximately 400 student-athletes to over 750 student-athletes. Notable facilities constructed during this time have included the turf, track, and stadium in 2001; the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center (The W) in 2008; and numerous outdoor projects to support cross country, soccer, tennis, basketball, and softball from 2010-2020.
