Smith College is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a graduate assistant for the Smith College Sports Performance Department. The position will start August 2025 and is a 2 year graduate assistantship. Official application deadline is March 15 and an official hire will be made after that date per College of Graduate Studies guidelines for our process.
Compensation Includes $6000/year in stipend money and you would pay $5000/Year in Tuition.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required and certification from either the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) or a certification from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) as a Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) is preferred. Acceptance into the ESS Master’s program is required. Preferred Undergraduate GPA of a 3.0 or better.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
-Responsible for the year-round sports performance programming for 3-4 varsity athletic teams.
-Meet with and effectively communicate with sport coaches to optimally meet the needs of each team.
-Instruct athletes on proper technique.
-Lead groups of athletes through training efficiently and effectively.
-Provide guidance to student athletes on sleep, nutrition, and the 24-hour athlete mindset.
-Teach a general exercise class to undergraduate students each semester.
Opportunities include but are not limited to:
-Use technology such as First Beat heart rate monitoring system and/or Tendo Units
-Track and use Wellness, RPE, and Vertical data to give feedback to coaches and manage the fatigue of student athletes
-Research opportunities with ESS. Possibly involving data gathered on student athletes, Using the ESS lab which features a mobile metabolic cart and force plates among other equipment.
-Networking opportunities during site visits and continued education.
