Why you should apply: Duke University Athletics is recognized as one of the premier athletic programs in NCAA Division I and competes in the prestigious Atlantic Coast Conference. This immersive, hands-on Coaching Assistant position provides a unique opportunity to work with 23 men’s and women’s teams (excluding football and basketballs), gaining invaluable experience alongside a team of eight full-time sports performance coaches.

As a Coaching Assistant*, you will receive access to Training Table meals during the fall and spring semesters. In addition, Duke Sports Performance will cover the cost of your CSCCa membership, SCCC certification, and practicum fees. Travel, lodging, and meals for the CSCCa National Conference will also be fully funded, giving you the opportunity to network and learn from some of the best in the industry.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they meet all requirements set by the CSCCa to sit for the SCCC exam at the conclusion of the internship (please refer to the CSCCa website for clarification on requirements)

Responsibilities: As a key member of our team, you will assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of sports performance programs for our athletes. You will attend practices and games, participate in our coaching assistant curriculum, and gain hands-on experience in coaching and program design. Our comprehensive curriculum includes both lecture-based and practical learning experiences, such as exposure to advanced technologies, literature reviews, program writing, research presentations, and interview preparation. By the end of the program, you will be well-equipped to pursue a career in sports performance.

Qualifications: We are seeking individuals with a strong work ethic, enthusiasm for sports performance, punctuality, and a commitment to professional growth. Ideal candidates will have a clear desire to pursue a career in sports performance and are eager to take on new challenges in a dynamic, high-performance environment. This is a nine-month commitment, with the position spanning both the fall and spring semesters. Applicants must be able to commit to the full academic year (fall/spring)
