The Director of Sport Performance/Head Strength & Conditioning Coach will lead, plan, and coordinate all aspects of competitive intercollegiate sports performance programming including strength and conditioning, speed and agility training, and effective teaching of exercise technique to enhance and complement sport requirements.
Responsibilities
The Director of Sport Performance/Head Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for safety and compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University of Mount Union rules and regulations.The successful candidate will work directly with head coaches to establish appropriate competitive and developmental goals for each sport throughout the year including summer programming.
The Director of Sport Performance/Head Strength & Conditioning Coach will work closely with colleagues within the Department of Exercise, Sport, and Nutrition Sciences (ESNS) to plan and coordinate all integrative learning activities offered to the Strength & Conditioning (S&C) concentration students within the Exercise Science major. The successful candidate must be willing to mentor student interns in the performance of duties in a manner that complies with Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE) standards.
Position reports to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and collaborates with ESNS faculty.
Responsibilities include the following:
-Plan, direct and conduct team and individual strength and conditioning programs for in-season, post-season and non-traditional seasons where appropriate and permissible.
- Design instructions for individual student-athletes and for specific team needs. Teach proper skills and skill development to student-athletes and interns.
- Develop, demonstrate, and promote multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful University community. Demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion and belonging as a university priority, communicate to employees an expectation of behavior that is civil and inclusive when interacting with all staff, faculty, students, and visitors and promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
- Train, mentor and supervise student interns (undergraduate and graduate level) as S&C coaches and facility supervisors.
- Oversee the promotion of student athlete safety and well-being in all training sessions and conditioning activities including practice activities and competitions where appropriate and permissible. Provide student athletes with instruction regarding physical health and safety.
- Attend and participate in appropriate national or regional level coaching clinics and/or conventions to improve and increase overall knowledge of training and coaching techniques as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the appropriate athletics administrators to create practice and training schedules.Plan and schedule weight room usage and team schedules in coordination with head coaches.
- Teach specified courses (4 - 6 credit hours annually) within the Strength & Conditioning concentration.
- Lead facility oversight for the Gulling Training Center. Provide equipment oversight, maintenance/repair, and replacement oversight.
- Participate in Department of Athletics meetings and activities as appropriate.
- Participate in ESNS/Exercise Science meetings as appropriate.
-Participate in Athletic Training meetings as appropriate.
-Participate in University of Mount Union community activities as appropriate.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience at the collegiate level as a Strength & Conditioning/Sports Performance Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator
- Membership in the NSCA (National Strength & Conditioning Association) required.
-NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) required.
-CPR/First Aid Certification required.
-Experience in planning and executing strength and conditioning programming for competitive athletics teams.
-Ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment.
-Ability to treat all people equitably and with a sensitivity and awareness to cultural difference.
-Demonstrated ability to hold others accountable for behavior that is supportive of a community that is diverse and inclusive.
- Extensive knowledge of various word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail are required.
- Education: Master's degree in Exercise Science or related field required.
