To ensure the health and safety of the athlete, it is important for strength and conditioning coaches to maintain current CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications. Because these certifications involve the demonstration of hands-on skills, CPR and AED courses approved and accepted by the CSCCa must include an in-person skills assessment. While it is acceptable to have a portion of these courses offered online, there must also be an in-class portion conducted by an instructor to ensure the demonstration and mastery of necessary life-saving skills and techniques. First Aid courses may be completed online-only. *Please note Basic Life Support (BLS) does NOT include First Aid.*
Courses offered through the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross are the preferred CPR, AED, and First Aid course providers. Please be aware, however, that courses taken through either of these preferred organizations must include a hands-on portion, or they will not be accepted. Please contact the CSCCa National Office with any questions regarding acceptable courses. Please note that both the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross offer courses which include all three certifications on one card, simplifying the process of maintaining and verifying current certification.
For meeting SCCC certification and CEU requirements, you must submit a copy of the front and back of your card/certificate. You may email or fax this image to the CSCCa National Office. Email is preferred. If, however, you choose to fax your card/certificate, please contact the CSCCa National Office at 801-375-9400 to verify receipt.
