Melissa Schmitz joined the staff at The University of Texas in the fall of 2015. Currently, she is an assistant coach designing and implementing programs for Softball, Men’s Golf, and M/W Cross Country. She also runs the Olympic sports strength and conditioning internship program where she oversees the development and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate strength and conditioning coaches.
Prior to Texas, Melissa worked at Georgia State University since 2009. She oversaw all training aspects for softball, women’s soccer, indoor volleyball, and beach volleyball. She previously had women’s basketball in the mix before the beach program was started. Her first year on the job included WBB, women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s & women’s tennis, cross country, and cheerleading at GSU. While earning her master’s degree at the University of Northern Iowa she served as a graduate assistant from 2007-09. Melissa was responsible for program design and implementation for women’s basketball and women’s soccer at UNI.
As an undergraduate, she attended the University of Northern Iowa and competed as an indoor volleyball athlete. She helped the team to three Missouri Valley Conference championships and three appearances in the NCAA tournament.
