Dr. Pat Ivey is currently the Assistant VP/ Associate Athletics Director for Student Athlete Health and Performance at the University of Louisville. He oversees the departments of Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Sports Nutrition, Mental Health and Performance, and Sports Science. Dr. Ivey is also currently an Adjunct Professor teaching a course in Foundations of Sport Performance via an online Master’s program in Positive Coaching. In 2018, Dr. Ivey started Pat Ivey Performance, LLC and pativey.com. His social media platform helps to educate Human Performance professionals all around the world. In 2019, he created a podcast titled “Beyond Sets and Reps” to discuss topics related to developing athletes beyond the physical, technical, and tactical preparations.
Prior to Dr. Ivey’s arrival to Louisville, he served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Performance at Arkansas State University. He oversaw the Athletic Performance Staff and was responsible to the training and development of all ASU’s sports teams. He also oversaw the Sports Nutrition department and was the primary deliverer of Mental Performance to the Football Team as well the Athletic Performance Staff.
On February 15, 2016, Dr. Ivey continued his service at the University of Missouri as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Access and Leadership Development. In this role, he assisted with Community Engagement, Legislative Relations, and K-12 pipelining and programming.
From 2007 to 2014, Ivey help the Missouri Tiger Football Team win 5 of 7 Conference Divisional Titles in the Big XII and SEC. Pat Ivey was named the National Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 2013. In 2009, Ivey was also awarded the Major Mick Deaver Award for fostering good relations with students at the University of Missouri. These awards preceded his completion of a Ph.D. in Sport Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2013. In 2012, Coach Ivey attained the status of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach from the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. Also in 2012, Pat Ivey and Josh Stoner co-authored their first book Complete Conditioning for Football published by Human Kinetics.
In 2011, Pat Ivey was named Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Performance for the University of Missouri, overseeing Strength and Conditioning, Applied Performance (Sport Science), Sports Nutrition, and Corrective Biomechanics departments. From 2004 to 2011, Ivey was the Director of Strength and Conditioning and Assistant Director of Athletic Performance. From 2002 to 2004, Ivey served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of Tulsa. From 2000 to 2002, he was the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at the University of Missouri.
Pat Ivey lettered as a defensive end at Missouri from 1993-95. In 1995, he was honored as being the strongest athlete in the history of Missouri. In 1996, he was signed as a free agent by the San Diego Chargers. Beginning in 1998, Ivey worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, at the University of Missouri. He started his graduate assistantship after spending time with Denver Broncos and during his time with the Green Bay Packers in 1999.
His wife, Dr. Starla Ivey, is a college professor and they have 2 daughters, Paisli and Serena.
