Creating, Mastering, and Evaluating Coaching Behaviors: Maximizing S&C Coach Effectiveness
Understanding the science behind performance training is important but does not make you an effective coach. Coaching goes far beyond sets, reps, and rest periods. Dr. Mary Kate Feit uses her background in collegiate strength and conditioning combined with her doctorate in teaching to supervise, mentor, and educate future coaches. During this session, you will be able to step into her “classroom” and learn the techniques, skills, and behaviors that lead to efficient, effective, and impactful coaching. Be prepared to evaluate the coaching behaviors of your interns, peers, and yourself, determine skills that you all must master, and create habits for continuing the pursuit of coaching excellence within your staff.
Dr. Mary Kate Feit is currently employed as an Assistant Professor of Strength and Conditioning in the school of Physical Education, Performance, and Sport Leadership at Springfield College. Mary Kate’s love for strength and conditioning originated when she began sports performance training under fellow Springfield College Alum Mike Boyle at Mike Boyle’s Strength and Conditioning Center. After realizing her passion for coaching at the young age of 16, she spent the next seven summers coaching athletes while finishing her high school and collegiate education. MK completed her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the College of the Holy Cross where she was a division one collegiate soccer player. She continued her education by completing her graduate degree in Applied Exercise Science with a concentration in Strength and Conditioning from Springfield College. Mary Kate had an extensive career in sports performance which included time spent as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Iowa and the University of Louisville as well as the Adult Program Coordinator at Reach Your Potential Training. During this time, she realized that her true passion lied in the education, supervision, and mentoring of strength and conditioning interns. Following her passion, she returned to Springfield College to complete her doctoral degree while researching strength and conditioning internship education. In addition to her role as a professor at Springfield College, Mary Kate also serves as the Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning assisting in the oversight of the college’s Graduate Assisting Strength and Conditioning Coaches. She is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, College Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association, Precision Nutrition, Functional Movement Screen, and is a Certified Functional Strength Coach. She currently resides in Wilbraham MA with her husband Adam, son Cody, and daughter Macy.
