Development of the Mentor/Mentee Relationship and the Evolution of the Internship Program
Brandon began in the strength profession as an undergraduate intern at Kent State University in 2012 under the guidance of Ryan Gearheart. He continued interning at the University of Georgia in 2014 before becoming a professional intern and then graduate assistant from 2014 to 2017. During this time, he learned from his mentor Ryan Gearheart who ran the internship program at UGA.
In 2017, Brandon started his first fulltime job in the field of strength and conditioning at Boston College. During his time at Boston College, Brandon was able to work with every varsity Olympic sport that Boston College has in some aspect.
In November of 2018, Brandon moved onto the University of Virginia where he worked primarily with both the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs. In 2019, he was a part of the 2019 National Champion Men’s Lacrosse program.
In January of 2020, an opportunity arose to go back to UGA and be part of the staff that he was able to learn under. Brandon has been at UGA ever since and now oversees the internship program. Coming full circle from being an intern at UGA to now running the internship program is a unique experience. He has been able to take all that he has learned from the different institutions he has worked at along with all the different strength coaches Brandon worked with as well as sport coaches. This has now led to how we run our opened ended internship curriculum.
