Development of the Mentor/Mentee Relationship and the Evolution of the Internship Program.
Jordan Nilson joined the University of North Carolina Olympic Sports Strength and Conditioning staff in January of 2019. She is directly responsible for all aspects of training for softball, women’s tennis and gymnastics programs. She also oversees all things related to the internship program at UNC, which includes Full Time and Undergrad Strength & Conditioning Interns, and Undergrad Sport Science Interns.
In her time at the University of North Carolina, Jordan has been a part of: the 2023 Women’s Tennis NCAA National Championship, 4x ITA National Indoor Championship, 4x ACC Championships, 10x All Americans , and 2x EAGL Regular Season Championships with Gymnastics before the inaugural year in the ACC.
Prior to UNC, Nilson served as Strength and Conditioning Assistant at North Carolina State for two years. While at NC State, she was responsible for softball, men’s and women’s golf, and rifle programs while assisting with baseball, volleyball, men’s soccer, and both tennis programs. Before arriving at NC State she spent two years as an intern at the University of Georgia where she assisted with a number of of teams while under the guidance of Ryan Gearheart.
Other internship stops include Athens Academy and Lagrange College.
A native of Hawkinsville, Ga., Nilson earned her M.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Georgia. In addition, she earned a B.S. in Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching from Lagrange College, where she played softball.
Nilson is certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (SCCC) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS) as well as TPI Level 2 Fitness Certification.
She lives in Fuquay Varina with her husband Ken and daughter Austin.
