Discussing the changing landscape and realities of college sports and strength & conditioning. How do we evolve and prepare as a profession?
Quinn Barham is the current director of Speed, Strength and Conditioning for Coastal
Carolina Football. He also oversees the physical development for all 19 sports at
Coastal Carolina University. In two years at Coastal, he’s been instrumental in
consecutive Bowl game appearances, a Sun Belt Conference Championship in
Women’s Volleyball, and significant upgrades to the Chanticleer athletic department.
Before joining Coastal Carolina, Barham spent seven seasons at The Ohio State
University as a football strength and conditioning coach. He has also had coaching
stops at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and NC State University.
Barham completed his undergraduate studies at Penn State University in 2011 and
earned a master’s degree in Sport Coaching from Ohio State in 2019. He was a
member of the Penn State Nittany Lions’ football program from 2007 to 2011, serving as
a two-year starter along the offensive line, and team captain. He was blessed to further
his football career in the NFL briefly before entering the coaching ranks.
A lifelong learner, Quinn has been fortunate enough to study under the tutelage of
Mickey Marotti, Jason Veltkamp, Thomas Stallworth, Dantonio Burnette, Urban Meyer,
Ryan Day, Larry Johnson and many other coaching giants.
What Coach Quinn enjoys most about the field of strength and conditioning is being
involved in the maturation and transformation process of the student-athlete throughout
their athletic career and lifetime. When he is not busy developing the Chanticleers, the
Durham, North Carolina native can be found spending time with his wife, Chassidy, and
two children, Aria (3) and Luke (1).
