Biography: Bill Maxwell is the director of Olympic Sports Strength & Conditioning and in his 18th season with the University of Iowa. Maxwell is responsible for Men’s Basketball, Rowing, Men’s Golf and Women’s Gymnastics. Prior to joining the Hawkeyes in 1997, he served as assistant strength & conditioning coach at the University of Kansas (1991-97). Maxwell oversaw strength and conditioning programs for the Jayhawk Olympic sports, including men’s basketball, baseball, tennis and swimming/diving.
Maxwell earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from East Carolina University in 1990, where he competed for the Pirate football team. Maxwell served as a graduate assistant at Kansas before becoming a fulltime member of the Kansas staff. He also earned a master’s degree in education from Graceland University in May 2009.
Maxwell was named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association in May 2009.
Presentation Summary: Developing and maintaining a great intern program begins with focus on assisting interns to be their best self. The culture must be one of high expectations in academic, social and life skill areas. Our entire staff is involved with the full process; recruitment, educational presentations, exercise progressions, resume/cover letter writing, portfolio development, mock interviews and placement. The final step, which never ends, is supporting those interns in their new roles and watching their evolution.
