Kayla Matrunick

The Role of Nutrition on Performance and Recovery

Biography:
Kayla Matrunick joined Fighting Irish Sports Performance Team in 2011 and is now entering her third year as Notre Dame's Sports Nutrition Program Director. She oversees and coordinates performance nutrition needs for all 26 Irish sports programs. Her team of three dietitians assist Notre Dame’s athletes by providing nutrition education, individualized meal planning, clinical nutrition, nutritional supplement evaluation, body composition analysis, and competition nutrition. Matrunick ran cross country and track and field at Penn State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nutritional sciences. She continued her education at The University of Tennessee where she completed her master’s degree in Sports Psychology. While at Tennessee she served as the volunteer distance coach/ recruiting coordinator for the track and field and cross country programs. After her time at Tennessee she completed her dietetic internship at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences. Matrunick is a Registered Dietitian (RD) through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), holds a certification as a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and is a member of Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition (SCAN) didactics practice group, and Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine (DIFM). She also holds a USATF Level 1 Track and Field Coaching Certification.
