Stacey Torman - Sports Performance Model Panel Member
Director of Strength & Conditioning, University of Alabama-Birmingham
Stacey Torman became a Director of Strength & Conditioning in 2012, having previously served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the UAB Athletic Department since 1990. Torman came to UAB from Texas A&M University, where she was a three-year letter-winner, an All-Southwest Conference player for the Lady Aggie volleyball team, and a three-year participant in NCAA postseason play. She earned her bachelor's degree in exercise technology from Texas A&M in 1987 and received her master's degree in exercise physiology at UAB in 1991.
Torman is in charge of the day-to-day happenings of the Strength and Conditioning program. She is currently responsible for the men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, synchronized swimming, and volleyball teams, although she has designed and implemented programs for 15 of the 17 Blazer teams throughout her career at UAB.
In addition, Torman mentors graduate assistants and interns to prepare them for the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) professional certification exams. Her main focuses are to provide these individuals with practical experience in program design and execution and give them an understanding of the demands of the profession.
Torman's certifications include:
Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC) for CSCCa since 2004. In addition to becoming the first female to be named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach, she has also served on the Board of Directors of the CSCCa since 2005.
CSCS for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) since 1988.
Certified Personal Trainer for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) since 1999
