Matt Turner joined the Ole Miss strength and conditioning staff in 2008 and serves as the strength coach for the Rebel men's basketball team.
Turner came to Ole Miss from Alabama State University in Montgomery, where he served as the school's head strength and conditioning coach from Aug. 2007 to May 2008. He oversaw the entire program and worked directly with football, men's and women's basketball, golf, volleyball and track.
During 2006-07, Turner was the head trainer at Parisi Speed School in Bentonville, Ark., working with male and female athletes from high school through professional levels. He prepped athletes for Combine and developed and implemented speed, strength and conditioning programs. He was previously at Eastern Illinois University, where he served as the school's head strength and conditioning coach from Aug. 2005 to Aug. 2006. Turner was responsible for all aspects of the EIU strength and conditioning program and was the strength coach for the Panthers' Division I FCS football program, as well as men's and women's basketball, baseball and track and field.
No stranger to the Southeastern Conference, Turner went to EIU after a one-year stint as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Arkansas in 2004-05. The Arkansas State graduate began his professional career as a football coach, assisting on the sidelines at Washington University in St. Louis (1999), Arkansas Tech (2001-02) and Arkansas-Monticello (2002-03). It was at UA-Monticello that Turner added the duties of head strength and conditioning coach.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Turner received his bachelor's degree in sociology from Arkansas State in 1999 before earning a master's degree in physical education from Arkansas Tech in 2002. He is Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified through the CSCCa and holds USAW certificates as a Sports Performance Coach and Club Coach Level 1. He has one son, Zander Turner.
