A veteran among his peers at Texas Tech, Aaron Uzzell has become a fixture within the Red Raider sports program with 13 years of coaching Texas Tech student-athletes.
A 1997 graduate of Texas Tech with a degree in Exercise Sport Science, Uzzell began his career as a student assistant under legendary football coach Spike Dykes. Over the years, the Fritch, Texas, native has installed innovative training regimens for Red Raider student-athletes from every sport.
Uzzell is responsible for the continued development and strength rehabilitation of injured Red Raider football players, equipping them with the proper exercises and techniques that allow them to maintain a physical edge, while overcoming injury. His presence in the weight room and on the football field during practice has earned him respect among his peers, as well as from the student-athletes. Additionally, Uzzell oversees the nutritional program for football and works in conjunction with the compliance office to ensure Texas Tech student-athletes are receiving the proper supplemental support as allowed by the NCAA.
Several players have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to continue their football careers in the NFL. Players such as Wes Welker (Patriots), Louis Vasquez (Chargers), Joselio Hanson (Eagles) and Keyunta Dawson (Colts), to name a few, benefitted from Uzzell's assistance in the weight room.
Red Raider football has experienced tremendous success during Uzzell's tenure in the program, including 13 bowl games - current streak of 10 straight - and four 5,000-yard passers. Additionally, the Red Raiders have claimed six NCAA passing titles in the last 10 seasons and two total offense wins. Texas Tech teams over the last decade are responsible for rewriting the record book as the Red Raiders have accomplished over 150 team and individual records.
Uzzell's path to a successful career at Texas Tech began upon graduation in 1992 from Sanford Fritch High School. In addition to assisting in a highly successful and motivating strength and conditioning program at Texas Tech, Uzzell also owns and operates Velocity Bike Shop in Lubbock and is an accomplished amateur road and off-road cyclist.
Uzzell and his wife, Amy, are the proud parents of twin four-year-old boys, Aiden and Archer, and newborn, Allie (March, 2010).
