Asst. Athletic Director/Director of Strength & Con
Tory Stephens is in his 27th year as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Texas Tech and his fifth year as Asst. AD/ Director of Strength & Conditioning. Stephens received his Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) certification from the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) in the organization's inaugural year of 2001 and his Master Strength & Conditioning Coach (MSCC) in 2010.
Stephens oversees all strength coaches for all 17 sports and along with AD and director responsibilities, Coach Stephens works with the baseball team at Texas Tech.
As a certified member of the CSCCa, Coach Stephens is an approved mentor for the organization's practicum/internship program. He has mentored 23 coaches who have received the SCCC Certification.
Stephens consults and works closely with many high school and junior high school coaches on strength and conditioning programs and is a frequent speaker across the state , while also conducting summer strength and SAQ (speed, agility, and quickness) camps for youth in the community.
Tory, who graduated from Texas Tech in 1998 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science, was a letterman in football, baseball and track at Sweetwater High School. As a football player, he was selected to be part of the All -
West Texas, All-South Plains, and All-State Football teams. In addition, he was an All-State catcher and a three-time All-District selection in baseball. Stephens and his wife, Trisha, are the proud parents of two sons and one daughter. Both sons play college football (Army and New Mexico State). In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and fishing, and of course training and working out.
