Mike Vorkapich returned to Michigan State University, his alma mater, in August of 1998. After 11 seasons as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach there, he was promoted by Ken Mannie to Associate Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in 2009. Coach Vorkapich works directly with both men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, and men's ice hockey. In the 14 seasons spent with the aforementioned programs, Vorkapich has been a part of a combined 11 Conference Championships, 6 Men's Basketball Final Fours, 1 Women's Basketball Final Four, 3 Men's Ice Hockey Frozen Fours and 2 National Championships (2000 men's basketball and 2007 men's ice hockey).
Coach Vorkapich received his start at Michigan State as a graduate assistant from 1995 to 1997. During this time, the former Spartan football player worked with the men's and women's basketball teams, while also assisting with the hockey and football programs.
Between stints at MSU, Mike held similar positions at the University of Notre Dame (1998) and the University of Cincinnati (1997-1998), serving as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach under Mickey Marotti.
A native of Leamington, Ontario, Canada, Vorkapich received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physical Education and Exercise Science from MSU. Certified with both the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Vorkapich has played an important part in the development of numerous athletes who have gone on to play in the NBA, WNBA, NHL, NFL, and professional golf. He has also authored numerous articles and has been a featured clinic speaker on various topics related to strength and conditioning.
