Coach Melissa Schmitz joined the University of Texas Athletic Performance staff in August of 2015. Coach Schmitz is the Associate Head Coach for Athletic Performance and works directly with Softball, Men’s Golf, and Men’s and Women’s Cross Country. She led the internship program for four years at Texas.
Prior to Texas, Coach Schmitz was at Georgia State University working as an Assistant Speed, Strength and Conditioning Coach since 2009. During her time there, she oversaw all training aspects for Indoor Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Softball, and Women’s Soccer. Earlier on Coach Schmitz also worked with Women’s Basketball, Cross Country, Cheer, and Men’s and Women’s Tennis. While earning her master’s degree in Exercise Science at the University of Northern Iowa she served as a graduate assistant from 2007-2009. She directly worked with Women’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer at UNI.
As an undergraduate, she attended the University of Northern Iowa and competed as an indoor volleyball athlete. She helped the team to three Missouri Valley Conference championships and three appearances in the NCAA tournament
